This is our FINAL TREATMENT page. Upon receiving the results from the vote on our three concepts, Leviathan (later changed to Ursula) was the chosen concept and this meant that it was the concept that required a final treatment. The final treatment was put together by all members of Spooky Entertainment and as a group we decided to make it as creative and visual as possible with lots of visual elements surrounding the page. The colour scheme on the poster doesn't particularly hold any baring to the ideas of colour scheme we have for the film but it is something we thought about when choosing our inspirational existing film posters. Below, creatively laid out, is our final treatment:
Title and TaglineThe title of our chosen concept is Ursula. This is a result of our initial feedback flagging up the difficulty surrounding the pronunciation of our previous film title; Leviathan. We believe 'Ursula' to be a much better than because it's easier to pronounce and highly recognisable. This is important particularly for branding. The typography of the title on the poster is very similar to that of the actual font that will feature on the poster. The font is important as it conveys a sense of elegance and innocence which is a direct contrast of the usual ideas surrounding horror. This works well with the synopsis of the film.
The tagline on the treatment 'Satan I Summon Thee!' has since been changed to 'Innocence is lost Evil is found' as we felt the latter tagline was far to aggressive and didn't represent our film correctly. |

SynopsisOur synopsis is extremely important because it provides the back bone for ANY other work we produce. In case it is unclear in the picture here it is:
Ursula is the new college student transferred from Nigeria. Like all new students, her first day does not go on so well. She is picked on and laughed at. She runs to the LRC* to get away from the bullies. In the LRC she comes across an old torn ancient book called الشيطان الأول استدعاء إليك. Intrigued by the front cover she starts reading the book ignoring all the warning signs displayed on the first few pages. Lost in her own world after reading the first 2 chapters, she goes to the toilet to perform a summoning. She slices her wrist and with her own blood, she draws the symbol of the devil which summons him... After a while she washes it off and leaves to get a plaster. On the way to the medical room, she bumps into one of the bullies called Shaniqua, who laughs at her and accuses her of being a 'blind bat'. A sudden anger comes over Ursula and she psychologically scares her. Shaniqua manages to escape, she runs to tell the others that there is something wrong with Ursula. She tells them that her eyes have changed into a bright red colour. Shaniqua's friends ignore her and accuse her of being crazy. That same afternoon, one by one the bullies start to disappear. At first, the others thought they were bunking but then it becomes obvious that something is wrong. Ever since Ursula came back from the LRC she has had a split personality. A dark evil side of her comes out whenever she is picked on. |
* - LRC stands for Learning Resource Centre, basically the library.
Todorov's TheoryWe included information on Todorov's theory as we discovered during our initial horror genre research that his theory was something that can be applied to every horror film and it helps to identify the strength of your plot. This was important to include as it's basically a breakdown of the beginning, middle and end. So, for example, if whilst writing this we discovered the resolution wasn't particularly strong then we could change it now before we suffered any major difficulties during filming. Using Todorov's theory, we have broken down our film idea like this:
Equilibrium - When everything that is being seen or heard can be interpreted as "normal" or "usual". Disequilibrium - When there is a disturbance in normality and events begin to occur. Often one event triggers a domino effect. Resolution - When everything has been resolved. Often returns back to being an equilibrium. |

Character ProfilesOn our final treatment, we decided to include character profiles with a brief description of the principle cast. We mentioned a bit about their costume, characteristics and their relationship towards the other characters. We included pictures of existing characters who are most similar to our own characters in terms of costume and characteristics. We also applied Propp's theory to all our characters and included:
The most obvious inclusion from that list is:
This is because the protagonist and antagonists almost switch roles during the disequilibrium of our film which is something that isn't common in horror films but has been done. |
Props and LocationWe included props and locations on our treatment as we felt they held as much importance as anything else. The 3 props that have the most significance in our film are; the Satanic Symbol, the book that starts the chain of events (Disequilibrium) and the red eyes that signal Ursula's possession. Props such as the 3 we've highlighted are important for branding and that is something we have already begun to do with the satanic symbol.
As for the location we went for these:

Film InfluencesThe films that we sited as inspiration for our own include:
All films are of a similar genre and idea of possession. Each film had a different influence in the making of our own film concept. Examples of their individual influences include:
